While I’ve been running my own start up and have been involved with a couple before that, I’ve recently joined a friend to go for yet another start-up, a brand new company based in DHA Lahore and this is yet another beginning, yet another exciting action packed start-up and yet another dawn for the new dreams. No it’s not Cricket, we’ll find out about that in a few days. It’s about our BlackBerry app hitting world’s number 1 on BlackBerry App World. I’m proud to be part of a team who have made this possible. This is our second app that hits the No. 1 rank on BlackBerry App world across all geographies and all categories.
Could there be anything more cool for a company in Lahore than to have an app ranked higher than vendors like Electronic Arts and brands like Need for Speed? This achievement proves it yet again that we are not behind anyone in any productive field. You can know more about our No. App called LED-Notifier Pro here and I’ll keep you posted about further developments.
I’m happy to share the news that Photo Editor, a BlackBerry app by Pepper.pk has hit the #1 slot on BlackBerry App World again. Photo Editor has been in top 20 apps since it hit the top slot back in December. The quality and features this app provides have won the hearts of BlackBerry users all around the world.

RIM’s BlackBerry playbook tablet is creating news and RIM is fully geared to get more app developers working on playbook apps. To make that more exciting, RIM has announced a free Playbook for all developers who submit their apps to the app-world before the device launch.
Details of the free PlayBook give away are still not clear but you need to know how to upload these apps to App-World. Currently, publishers and partners have no way to do that. RIM is expected to announce the procedure of How to upload Playbook apps to App-World in their web-cast scheduled at 7pm GMT on Thursday, December 9th.
So if you are a developer and you are looking forward to learn how to submit your PlayBook apps to App-World, register for this web-cast now and let’s see what RIM’s got scheduled for us in this web-cast.
I just got hold of these two devices. A BlackBerry Bold 9700 running OS 5 and a BlackBerry Torch running OS 6. Apparently both devices do not have a difference in processing power but the operating system boot up time looks drastically improved for OS version 6.
One of the thing that has always been irritating me has been the time a BlackBerry takes to boot. Any other phone does not take that long but things are eventually changing and the new OS has done some work to improve the boot up speed.
Checkout the video.
I usually don’t get that carried away by the youtube videos but this one has been done very well. It gets specific to the coders who write computer code and very beautifully stays general to all programming languages and tools. Enjoy the video and don’t forget to turn up the volume 😉
** Update **
Guys, following post is no more valid. Even if you get App World on your phone, it will not connect to the server as long as you are in an un-supported country connected through an un-supported career.
BlackBerry App Worldis RIM’s official application store for BlackBerry Apps. Quite interestingly, the app store is not available in all countries. There is a list of countries that are supported and many countries are left out. The store is available in countries like United Sates, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Germany France and a few more to buy and download apps. In addition, App World is also available in some countries where people can only download Free apps. They cannot buy these apps. App World with free-apps-only mode is available in countries like China, Brazil, Mexico, Hong Kong, Thailand etc. You can view the whole list of supported countries here.
If you are not in a country where BlackBerry app world is supported, you are out of luck. You can’t download the app world from RIM’s website. Though we have a bit of a workaround for that. You can user your BlackBerry browser to hit this link : http://bit.ly/bbappsworld . Make sure you open it using your BlackBerry phone, not your PC browser to launch the installer that will install BlackBerry app world on your phone. Please note that you will not be able to buy or view any paid app but you will be able to download, use and review the free apps at least.
Compatibility
I have tested this link on BlackBerry Bold 9700 as well as on a Storm 9530. Let me know if it works for your or not.
